The last we’ve really seen or heard from Prince Phillip, 97, was last January when he was involved in a serious car accident. Now, the elusive Prince Consort has come out of his self-imposed seclusion to attend an event with his wife, Queen Elizabeth II.
The Duke of Edinburgh looked fit and tan as he stood by the Queen’s side to greet dignitaries at the Order of Merit service at Windsor Castle on May seventh.
The dapper Duke stood with his hands locked behind his back, waiting for his turn to shake hands and receive a bow.
Later, the Queen and her Consort posed together for a lovely portrait.
“The service was held at Windsor Castle, not far from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s new home of Frogmore Cottage. Perhaps the Queen and Prince Philip plan to meet the couple’s son, born Monday, following their engagement.”
Although the Royal couple sent their good wishes earlier, it’s unlikely they will pass up the chance to pop in and take a peek at their newest great-grandson.
Speculation is rampant on social media, with NUMEROUS tweets making irreverent reference to the infamous car accident which Prince Philip flipped his Land Rover while driving near their Sandringham estate in January.
“Prince Phillip arrives at Frogmore to meet the Royal baby.“
“I see Prince Phillip made it safely to the hospital.“
“Prince Phillip has driven over to see the baby.”
"And, in other news, Prince Phillip arrives to see the new royal baby….”
You get the picture. You can’t blame people for jumping in with both feet with an irresistible urge to poke good-natured fun at the beloved elderly royal.
In keeping with Royal protocol, it is unlikely that Harry and Meghan would present their as-yet-unnamed child to the public before the Monarch has had a chance to make his acquaintance.
The event next door would be the perfect opportunity to pop over and meet the baby. After all, they’re already “in the neighborhood” so to speak!
According to Prince Harry’s adorable video clip he recorded for SkyNews on Monday, he and Meghan are planning to meet with the media to show off Baby Sussex on Wednesday.
So the engagement at Windsor on Tuesday would be the perfect opportunity.
The only thing that remains to be seen is whether or not the little guy will have a name by then. Rather, if the new momma and poppa will let US know what the prince’s name is.
