On Friday morning at about 3:40 a.m., a stabbing occurred at a residential daycare facility in Queens in New York City. Three infants and two adults were stabbed by an employee who then cut her own wrist, police reported, according to The New York Times.

After the stabbing, the children, who are all younger than a month, were rushed to New York Presbyterian Hospital. There were two girls and one boy that was wounded, but one of the girls had suffered more severe injuries than the other two, said Juanita Holms, assistant chief of the police department's Patrol Borough Queens North.

One of the adults that were stabbed was the father of one of the infants; he was struck in the leg. The other adult, another employee at the daycare, was stabbed in the torso.

When police arrived, they found the 52-year-old employee with slit wrists, and she was unconscious, police reported. Once police applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, the employee regained consciousness. She was then under arrest and now in custody.

Two knives were found at the scene. The names and ages of the victims and the employee were not released. There are no further details available at this time.
