Paramedics Rush To Academy Awards Stage When Oscar Winner Has ‘Serious Mishap’ Right After Receiving Statue

In what should have been this Hollywood actor’s biggest and most triumphant night of his life, things took a startling turn and almost made the night memorable for a different reason.

If things had gone just a tiny bit differently on Oscar night, his Academy Award win would have been merely the footnote to the story instead of the headliner. And his triumph would have quickly turned to tragedy.

It was at the end of the annual ceremony, (you know - when they announce the 'big awards'). After a few seconds of nervous anticipation, Rami Malek's name was called. The 37-year-old actor who portrayed the musical genius Freddie Mercury in the 2018 biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody' made his way onto the stage to accept the award and give his speech.

(Any self-respecting 'Queen' fan would know that the above photo is mislabeled. It should read, "Malek celebrates his win with [original 'Queen' members, guitarist] Brian May and [drummer] Roger Taylor.")

Afterward, Malek headed toward the stairs to exit the stage - to thunderous applause and universal adulation.

Then one tiny misstep changed the atmosphere in the entire auditorium from jubilation to horror.

No one knows quite how it happened, but when the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ star was leaving the stage at the conclusion of the ceremony, he somehow got caught up in all the glare and attention that he completely missed the edge of the stage and went tumbling down the ground from the approximate four-foot height. And, according to witnesses, he went down HARD!

“The newly-minted Oscar winner, 37, was photographed as he tumbled off the Oscars stage into the audience area after the ceremony had concluded.

“The star did his best to hold on his Best Actor statue aloft. Hitting the ground, Malek looked surprised and was helped up by those around him.”

And, of course, it was all caught on camera.

Eonline reports, “The Bohemian Rhapsody star was fresh off his Best Actor win when photographers caught Rami as he took a tumble off the Dolby Theatre stage and fell into the audience area after the ceremony concluded.”

And here's People's account: “Paramedics were then called to treat the actor, who was moved into a chair in the front row and then onto a more private area backstage.”

Malek’s representatives have not yet commented on the incident, and the extent of the actor’s injuries are not known. It is known, however, that immediately after his plunge, he was unable to pose for photos with other winners.

“Malek missed out on posing with his fellow actors Mahershala Ali, Regina King and Olivia Colman, who won for Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress, respectively.”

After a little while, however, Malek 'soldiered on' and made his way backstage.

One Twitter user thinks she knows what Freddie would have said had he seen Malek's spectacle.

“The actor did not show any outward signs of being injured as he spoke in the press room” later in the evening.

And, of course, the big question on everybody's mind is this: "How did he NOT get seriously injured?"

The only thing you can say is the adrenaline rush from his spectacular win may have been enough to numb the pain from the potentially serious mishap. Bystanders say the Freddie Mercury portrayer never let go of his award the entire time!

Eonline reports, “Paramedics appeared to rush to the actor's aide, who was photographed seated in the front row with his Oscars statuette still in hand."

People reports, “Malek was then moved to a private area backstage, where he received further treatment for possible injuries."

During his memorable acceptance speech, Malik thanked those whose support was pivotal to his success.

“My mom is in here somewhere, I love you. I love you, lady,” Malek said while accepting the award.

“My family, thank you for all of this. My dad didn’t get to see me do any of this, but I think he’s looking down on me right now. This is a monumental moment.”
