Favorite Snack Food Recalled Over Fears of Salmonella Contamination; Be Sure To Check Your Pantry

July 23, 2018

Over the weekend on July 21, Mondelez Global LLC has announced that they voluntarily recalled a favorite snack loved by all.

Multiple Ritz Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bits products are being pulled from shelves in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

According to "Food Safety," the crackers contained a whey powder ingredient that could possibly be contaminated with Salmonella. Also noted was that an outside supplier supplied the whey powder ingredient containing the bacteria.

Mondelez's recall is simply a precaution due to the supplier's recall. There have not been any complaints or reports of illnesses.

Salmonella is a microorganism that may cause serious infections, and in some cases, may be life-threatening in young children, individuals with a weak immune system, and the elderly.

A healthy person who consumes a product contaminated with Salmonella may experience diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.
