Roseanne Cast Speaks Out About Abrupt Show Cancelation and the Controversial Tweet That Ended It All—It's Not What Most Expect

May 30, 2018

Recent news broke that Roseanne was being canceled due to a racist tweet by Roseanne Barr. Roseanne claims she meant no ill intent and that her jokes were in poor taste. Regardless, the show got canned by ABC.

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show," ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey stated.

The original tweet states, "Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj." "VJ" refers to Valeria Jarret who was a top aide to Obama. Jarret is pictured below (left) alongside a tearful Barr.

Barr's response on Twitter states, "I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste."

Valeria has yet to comment. I am sure some statement will surface in the coming days.

Her former cast was quick to tweet their opinions of Barr's actions. Sara Gilbert, who played Darlene Conner, tweeted, "Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least."

Emma Kenney, who played Harris Conner-Healy on the show, was disgraced as well. Saying she called to quit, only to realize the show had already been canceled.

Apparently, Wanda Sykes took the same route as Kenney because she too quit hours before the news broke that the show was over.
