A dash-mounted camera caught the moment when a tractor-trailer big rig crashed into the back of a yellow school bus during its early morning student pick up on Wednesday.
The accident occurred at around 6:15 am as the school bus was on its way to Charles H. Flowers High School in Springdale, Maryland. A passenger vehicle was reportedly also involved.
Investigators say the driver of the third vehicle, a woman, was the only fatality.
Six additional people were injured, two were transported to local hospitals; their conditions are unknown.
According to NBC Washington, “Six people, including two high school students and the bus driver, were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, Prince George's Fire Department spokesperson Mark Brady said.”
According to police, a passenger car was also involved in the incident. The driver of the third vehicle died from her injuries.
Dashcam video (below) shows the bus was struck violently from the rear and the side and incurred massive damage to the front.
“The truck was knocked onto its side, spilling its contents over the road. A blue car was smashed between the bus and the truck, badly mangled.”
It is believed that the woman who died was the driver of the passenger car. Her body was extracted several hours after the crash. Her name has not yet been released.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
Please join us in praying for all involved in this horrendous incident.
