As years go by, brick-and-mortar stores are leaving the streets. Due to many online companies, consumers are enjoying the easy shopping experience. Many retailers have had to step up their game in order to keep up.
Take Walmart for example. They have had to take extreme measures just to keep their customers happy. From 2-day shipping to the ability to order your groceries and pick up in a few hours, Walmart has adapted to the reality.
Some stores haven't adapted, nor could they ever due to their kinds of products. With many efforts, there were many failed attempts leaving stores with a "CLOSING DOORS" sign out front. Millions of consumers will be affected by these recent store closings.
Many of our favorite stores growing up have closed. Today, another favorite store we see in every mall has decided to close down. 46 stores have been unprofitable in 28 states. These stores are now closing.
There are 33 Sears stores and 13 Kmart stores closing their doors. Sears Holdings Corp. has been struggling for years now, leaving them with no other options but to shut down their least profitable stores.
The department store chain stated that their liquidation sales would begin on August 30 at their closing stores.
According to "MarketWatch," the corporation was +2.59 percent bounced 0.9% on Friday morning, after they slumped from 5.9 percent Thursday. They closed at a record low of $1.11. This month, SHLD tumbled to 39 percent and 89% this year.
“We continue to evaluate our network of stores, which is a critical component to our integrated retail transformation, and will make further adjustments as needed,” the company said in a statement.
“We thank associates affected by these store closures for their many contributions to our company. Eligible associates will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores," the statement added.
