It comes with great sadness to report such heartbreaking news. We are asking our readers to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.
A star Pike County High School football player, Dylan Thomas, has died following a freak accident that occurred during a Friday night game. Thomas was left hospitalized in a coma.
Pike County residents came together last weekend to pray for Thomas' recovery. The community was crushed when they found out that he didn't make it. Thomas died on Sunday night at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Thomas, a junior, was playing on the Varsity team against Peach County High School when he got hurt. The family told "Fox5" that Thomas was hit in the second quarter and then he went back out on the field unphased. Later, when Thomas was sitting on a bench on the sideline, his arm and leg went numb and then he collapsed.
Thomas was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital where he had two surgeries to remove the swelling on his brain. He had a severe brain injury.
Going into Saturday, the family and the community couldn't do much. All they could do was pray. And they did. The family has said that they are so overwhelmed by the love and support their community has given them. Local businesses and Papa Johns have stepped in to help with raising money to help pay for the medical costs.
Will you please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers?
