Many remember the day Princess Diana left this world. It was a day that couldn't be easily forgotten. The day was August 31, 1997.
2.5 billion people tuned in to watch her funeral and millions more still remained interested in her legacy, even to this day. Thousands of flowers were left at Kensington Palace shortly after Diana's passing. Look at all those flowers!
It is clear she had a major impact on everyone she met. She was known for shining a light on everyone she met.
People stated, "Diana served as a strong supporter of many charities and worked to help the homeless, people living with HIV and AIDS and children in need."
Many people believed that Diana died at impact as a result of a car crash while trying to escape the paparazzi. While she did die as a result of the crash, that wasn't the whole truth.
"Diana initially survived the crash, but succumbed to her injuries at a Paris hospital a few hours later." Doctors today believe she also could have been saved.
“My belief is that had Diana been moved more quickly, the surgeons may have had a better chance,” he said. “Her injuries, of course, were very serious, but there were delays in addressing those injuries that, to my mind, could have been critical,” states one source.
And there is more...way more. Her driver was largely to blame. It also didn't help she wasn't wearing a seatbelt.
"Following an investigation into the fatal accident, a report released in 1999 determined that the driver was at fault for driving at a high speed while under the influence of alcohol and anti-depressant drugs."
As we mentioned, the paparazzi were thought to have played a role.
"'The paparazzi were found to be, in general terms, a 'contributing factor,' says Martyn Gregory, filmmaker, journalist and leading authority on the crash as author of Diana: The Last Days (1999). The driver was speeding to avoid the paparazzi; if they had not been there, he might have driven at safe speed, thus avoiding a crash, Gregory says."
So in combination with all these things, Diana lost her life that night. Just think, had the driver been sober that night; had she worn a seatbelt; had the paparazzi not been there; had the doctors treated her quicker—Diana may be here today. Sends chills up my spine.
