Recently, the Rockbridge Regional Tourism board met with members from Lexington, Buena Vista, and Rockbridge County to approve a recovery plan after the controversial incident, which had negative effects on the town as a whole.

The recovery plan quickly arrived after The Red Hen's actions toward Sanders due to the significant hit the restaurant took and the impact it caused on its town. After the incident, protestors flooded the streets outside the restaurant, chanting and holding signs; many people, including tourists, refused to continue to dine at The Red Hen.

"For a town our size, it was a significant impact," Director of Marketing Patty Williams said. "We would certainly try to portray ourselves as a friendly, welcoming place. And focus our marketing toward accomplishing that goal."

The Rockbridge Regional Tourism board has approved a decision that will boost its digital marketing campaign to an "additional $5,000 per month from the office's emergency fund," according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The controversy ignited back in June when Sanders shared her experience at The Red Hen on Twitter:

"Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so"
