When Cynthia Bennett went to an adoption event in 2014, she knew what she would end up going home with. In fact, she had her eye on a golden retriever mix for most of the event.
However, as soon as she saw the massive puppy in the corner, she changed her mind. Even though he was the same age as many of the other puppies, Henry was huge. He also had long legs and an athletic body.
When she went over to greet him, he immediately headed toward her. She shared, “He just curled up into my lap and went belly up and flipped his head over my arm. And from then, I decided that he was coming home with us.”
Cynthia and her boyfriend love hiking—in fact, they moved to Colorado specifically to be able to hike in the mountains. They knew that they wanted Henry to love hiking with them.
They took Henry on his first hike soon after they got him. “I think we only had him for three days when we took him on our first hike, which was to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs,” Cynthia shared. “He found the steepest, tallest rock around and he ran up to the top of it to look over the edge”
That’s when they knew that they had chosen the perfect dog. His huge size and muscular build make him the perfect hiking buddy for them. Although, according to Cynthia, he terrifies them. “We call him our little mountain goat. He scares us to death because he goes up to the highest cliff...to climb up and look over it.”
The couple adores Henry, but they wanted another pet. They really wanted to get a cat, but they weren’t sure how Henry would react to it. They wanted to find the perfect one to fit their family.
Cynthia really wanted a rescue kitten, but couldn’t find the right one. She shared, “I’d looked for five months, and I saw lots of different kittens, but none of them really had the right personality or fit.”
After months of searching, though, she found the perfect cat. Baloo ran up to her and played with her a soon as he saw her. She knew he would be perfect.
Cynthia knew that Baloo would be right for the family, but she still wasn’t sure how Henry would react to him. But she had nothing to worry about. As soon as the two met, the became best friends.
The two would play together, snuggle together, and when Henry went on a hike, Baloo always wanted to join too. Baloo was a natural on the trails. He loved his harness and being outside—he was just happy to be involved.
Now, the two are basically inseparable. Henry is the protective older brother and Baloo is the playful younger one that just wants to be like his brother. And, I mean, how can you not fall in love with those darling pictures!
