Just minutes after posting their latest update on the condition of actor Luke Perry after his massive stroke earlier today, TMZ is now back-pedaling from their original report. We have decided to do the same until further confirmation is released.
While we are eager to bring you breaking news as it happens, sometimes news outlets jump the gun a bit. We don't know if that's the case here, but we want to go on record that we are amending our earlier story to include the fact that there are conflicting reports on Perry's current medical condition.
Here's what we reported, based on what TMZ had released early this afternoon.
Sources connected to Luke tell TMZ that "doctors have placed him in a medically induced coma. The stroke, we're told, was 'massive.' When paramedics arrived at his home he was responsive and talking but his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the hospital.”
Here is the timeline TMZ posted to their website (Pacific Time):
"12:07 PM PT -- Sources connected to Luke tell TMZ doctors have placed him in a medically induced coma. The stroke, we're told, was "massive." When paramedics arrived at his home he was responsive and talking but his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the hospital."
Then, less than 20 minutes later, here is what they posted:
"12:25 PM PT -- Although a family member says Luke was placed in a coma, his rep says he is not. We're told he is sedated."
As we originally reported, “Paramedics responded to Luke's home in Sherman Oaks around 9:40 AM. We know the call came into the fire department for someone suffering a stroke, and Luke was transported to a nearby hospital. It's unclear what his condition is right now.”
According to TMZ, ”The 52-year-old who stars as Archie's dad, Fred Andrews, on 'Riverdale' ... had been shooting episodes recently in L.A. on the Warner Bros. lot.”
He was also, reportedly, in talks with Fox to reprise his role as Dylan McKay in the upcoming return of the monstrously-popular ’90s show, ‘Beverly Hills, 90210.’
“Luke's medical crisis coincidentally struck on the very same day Fox announced it will reboot ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ -- the show on which he shot to fame, playing Dylan McKay in the 90s.
Committed to his current role as Archie’s dad on ‘Riverdale,’ Perry is said to have NOT yet agreed to participate in the project.
“While his former costars -- Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Jason Priestly, Brian Austin Green, Tori Spelling and Gabrielle Carteris -- will be on the revived series, Luke has not signed on to the project.
Fans and costars of the ailing celebrity have reached out with words of encouragement and hope.
"Luke Perry's '90210' co-star @IanZiering expressed his support by posting a picture of the two of them on Instagram: "No words can express what my heart feels hearing today's shocking news. Let us all say a prayer for his speedy recovery"
"'90210' co-star @DohertyShannen showed her support for Luke Perry by posting an image from Brenda and Dylan's memorable spring dance episode on Instagram: "My friend. Holding you tight and giving you my strength. You got this"
“EVERYONE.....Pray for Luke Perry. He is still young yet, only 52. He is in a medically induced coma after suffering a massive stroke. He needs all the prayers he can get.”
"Prayers to my first celebrity crush. Luke Perry.”
AMEN to that!!
