Traffic Stop on 4/20 Leads to $250,000 Marijuana Bust

April 20, 2018

A traffic stop in Greenfield, Indiana led to the discovery of an SUV packed full of marijuana and the arrest of two men inside the vehicle.

According to the Indiana State Police, a policeman spotted a Ford Expedition weaving in and out of traffic on Interstate 70 near Indianapolis. During the traffic stop, bags of marijuana were found stacked to the roof of the SUV.

In all, 78 pounds of marijuana was found in the vehicle.

The two men in the vehicle, a 51-year-old Colorado man and a 42-year-old Indianapolis man, were both arrested.

Police say that the marijuana in the vehicle has an estimated street value of around $250,000.

What makes this traffic stop ironic is the date: 4/20. April 20 is unofficially known as “Weed Day” since its numerical date matches the number 420, a code word for marijuana.

“Somebody’s 4/20 celebration is canceled,” said Sgt. John Perrine of the Indianapolis State Police.
