Legendary soul singer James Brown's daughter, Venisha Brown, has died on Wednesday, September 19. She was 53 years old.
Brown died at AU Health Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. The cause of death was due to complications from pneumonia, according to the James Brown Foundation.
"The multi-talented songwriter and musician will always be remembered as one of the few who fully embodied the dance moves of her father," the statement read.
Brown's father, who was considered the Godfather of Soul, died on Christmas Day in 2006. Her mother, Yvonne Fair, who was also a singer, died in 1994 at the age of 51.
According to the James Brown Foundation, "To pay tribute to Venisha Brown, the family asks in lieu of flowers to make a one-time donation to J.A.M.P (James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils) a cause dear to Venisha’s heart."
“My beautiful big sis Venisha has received her angel wings…my heart is broken but I am comforted by the peace you now have!!! I love you sis,” Brown's half-sister, Yamma Brown, wrote on Instagram.
