In a bold move, one that her loyal fans have been secretly praying for, TV star Wendy Williams has finally filed for divorce from her husband of 20 years, Kevin Hunter.
The 54-year old host of the talk show that bears her name has faced her share of troubles lately, not the least of which were the persistent rumors that her husband had been cheating on her.
Repeatedly defending the 46-year-old Hunter, Wendy continued to stand by her man, saying the alleged cheating only served to strengthen their union.
Shortly after the couple’s 18-year-old son Kevin Jr. was born, Wendy discovered that all was not as it seemed in her marriage, overhearing a hushed conversation between her hubby and his alleged mistress.
Nevertheless, Wendy decided to stick around.
“It has made our marriage — and I know this is cliché, but it’s true — it’s made our marriage stronger,” she told VladTV in 2013.
“No, I’m not back to the girl I was before him, because when you get stung like that, you never go back to who you were — only a fool does.
“But I love him, and he loves me, and we addressed it head-on.”
Then the hammer fell.
Hunter’s long-term mistress reportedly gave birth to his child. Then came Wendy’s addiction relapse and her stint in a sober living house.
US Magazine reported, “According to multiple reports, Kevin Hunter and his alleged mistress, Sharina Hudson, welcomed a baby together on Monday, March 25.”
Wendy had been on hiatus for months while dealing with personal and health issues but made a celebrated return in mid-March. Then came the bombshell news about her husband’s alleged new baby.
Two days later, Wendy suffered a relapse in her sobriety and was hospitalized, forcing her to come clean with her fans.
Then, her prophetic words from the 2013 interview came back to roost.
“Marriages have ebbs and flows, marriage isn’t easy. And don’t ask me about mine until you see this gone,” she added, gesturing to her wedding ring.
“And it ain’t going anywhere, not in this lifetime.”
Complicating the change to her marital status is the fact that Hunter is not only her husband but also her business partner, manager, and the producer of her show.
It remains to be seen how the pair will untangle their many professional relationships.
In the meantime, Wendy can take comfort in the outpouring of love and support from her fans. There's no question that they are behind her 100%, coming out in full force on social media to share words of encouragement and support.
