Wheel of Fortune is the longest-running syndicated game show in the United States. It first aired in 1975 and continues to air to this day.
It’s simple and easy to follow format of trying to guess a word puzzle makes it appeal to a wide variety of audiences and one of the most popular game shows ever.
It might seem simple enough, but that doesn’t mean that some people still find ways to make the most unbelievable mistakes when trying to solve the puzzle.
In an episode that aired earlier this week, one contestant named Jonny made an unfortunate error that cost him the $7,100 prize.
Watch it all unfold in the video below!
As you can see, all he had to do was read the words “Flamenco dance lessons” as they appeared on the board and the prize would be his.
Fans of Wheel of Fortune will know that one of the foundational rules of solving the puzzle is pronouncing the phrase correctly. Jonny appeared to say “flamingo” instead of “flamenco.”
“What we all heard was, and I know you didn’t mean to say it, but, you gave us a “G” instead of a “C,” said host, Pat Sajak.
You could see the disbelief and confusion on Jonny’s face as his error was exposed.
Pat Sajak said that they would have the judges take a look at it during the break, but after the break, they stuck with their decision.
It’s a good thing that when we make pronunciation or reading errors, we aren’t in front of a nationally televised audience with prize money on the line.
What do you think of the judges' decision? Did he say “flamingo” or “flamenco?” Let us know your verdict in the comments!
