White House On Lockdown According to Secret Service; Officers Rushing To The Scene

On Thursday, August 2, the United States Secret Service has confirmed that the White House has been sent into lockdown. Officials said that officers were "alerted to a vehicle at a checkpoint" nearby according to NewsWeek.


The North Fence along Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette Park have been closed. 

The U.S. Secret Service posted on Twitter saying, "Secret Service Officers and K9 units were alerted to a vehicle at a checkpoint near the @WhiteHouse. The North Fence along Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette Park are closed at this time. @DCPoliceDept EOD personnel are responding to the scene."


Peter Alexander updates with the following: "White House North Lawn is on lockdown, per Secret Service. All camera crews and White House reporters ushered into the briefing room."


At this time, there has been no other details released about the cause for the White House to be on lockdown.


According to "Fox56," "UPDATE: The vehicle near the White House has been cleared. The North Fence line and Lafayette Park will open shortly. Lockdown is over."
