A mother of a five-year-old girl has spoken out about what she claims was the insensitive treatment of her daughter as the two were boarding their plane to return home from Orange County, California to El Paso, Texas.

According to the mom, Traci Redford, the boarding agents reacted unprofessionally when they saw the daughter’s name on the boarding pass. Admitting that the name is a bit unusual, she says that is still no excuse for their cruel behavior.

You see, the little girl’s name is ‘Abcde,’ pronounced ‘Ab-city.’ Well, you can imagine what went through the agent’s mind when she saw what was printed on the card and, no doubt, had to do a double-take to make sure her eyes weren’t deceiving her.

"The gate agent started laughing, pointing at me and my daughter, talking to other employees. So I turned around and said, 'Hey if I can hear you, my daughter can hear you, so I'd appreciate if you'd just stop,'" Traci Redford said.

But, that wasn’t the end of it, according to Redford. “While I was sitting there, she took a picture of my boarding pass and chose to post it on social media, mocking my daughter.

“It was actually brought to my attention by somebody who had seen it on Facebook and reported it to Southwest Airlines. And after two weeks of doing a formal complaint, Southwest hadn't done anything," said Redford.

But, Southwest Airlines did respond, issuing the following statement:

"We extend our sincere apology to the family. We take great pride in extending our Southwest Hospitality to all of our Customers, which includes living by the Golden Rule and treating every individual with respect, in person or online.

“The post is not indicative of the care, respect, and civility we expect from all of our Employees. We have followed up with the Employee involved, and while we do not disclose personnel actions publicly, we are using this as an opportunity to reinforce our policies and emphasize our expectations for all Employees."

Well, you can imagine, social media users had strong opinions about the incident…and especially the name the mom chose for her little girl.

"Name shaming? This Texas woman claims a @SouthwestAir agent made fun of her 5-year-old daughter's name as they were preparing to board their flight at @JohnWayneAir in Orange County. Her daughter's name is Abcde (pronounced Ab-city)"

“Good thing she never took her son Hijk who’s not allowed to fly!!”

“The agent was reprimanded, what more does she want? We have to stop calling for everyone to be fired over everything. It was a poor choice, but some sort of retraining & punishment was dealt. An apology issued. She needs to prepare for when Abcde starts school. Humans are cruel.”

“You are mad someone is making fun of your girl's name and you named her “Abcde”? What did you... think... was... gonna... happen…”

“She's been banking on this lawsuit for 5 years”

“How ironic that she is also named after the entire row of seats”
