A 96-year-old World War II veteran in hospice care is hoping to meet a fellow Battle of Guadalcanal veteran.

The Saugerties American Legion Post 72 posted on Facebook a special request from the United Hospice of Rockland about this veteran’s wish.

The post reads: “I am forwarding the following email in hopes that someone knows a veteran who has served during the Battle of Guadalcanal. Please see the details below…”

“United Hospice of Rockland is looking for someone willing and capable of visiting with a veteran patient who was in the Battle of Guadalcanal.

“Hospice recognizes that this is a longshot; it was fought between August 1942 and February 1943 on and around the island of Guadalcanal in the Pacific theater of World War II. The patient is 96 years old.”

“The patient is fixated on talking to someone that has this specific shared experience.”

“If you know of anyone who can speak with this veteran, please contact Carol Galione, Volunteer Program Coordinator at United Hospice of Rockland at: cgalione@hospiceofrockland.org or her co-worker Jan Dwek, who is the nurse case manager for this patient: jdwek@hospiceofrockland.org.”

Can you help this American Hero meet with a long-lost brother-in-arms? If you cannot, please consider sharing this post in the hopes that it reaches someone who can grant his wish.
